Calibration Technician

Summary

Performs in-house calibration, HEPA filter testing, and room air balancing. Enter information into centralized document tracking system for all Company facilities.  Maintains validated process state and quality compliance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Updates and maintains the calibration management system and hard copy files with up-to-date information of existing equipment and facilities.  This includes the instrumentation and numbering program. Communicates effectively with all departments involved in the implementation of this system.
  • Provides diagnostics, repairs, and modifications of industrial process control instrumentation.  Evaluates process instrumentation and develops calibration standards.
  • Programs/configures microprocessor-based controllers and data loggers.  Collects and organizes technical data from equipment manufacturers, equipment users, and company personnel.
  • Assists with identification, purchase and organization of spare parts as well as repair or replacement of calibrated instrumentation throughout the Company including calibration and repair of lab balances/scales.
  • Manages all outside calibration contractors and ensures compliance of these contractors with Company procedures and policies. Where economical and feasible, recommends elimination of contractors by doing the calibrations utilizing in-house personnel.
  • Maintains the metrology lab utilizing NIST traceable standards.
  • Adheres to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements.
  • Identifies and helps implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Thorough Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and fundamental operating principles of industrial instrumentation and systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with scientists, engineers, and production staff, as well as to comply with cGMP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to read, comprehend and execute SOPs and instruction documents written in English.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic drawings and P&ID's with proficient computer skills.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree in electronic, electrical or mechanical field; or the equivalent in pertinent, progressive experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Two years' electrical and calibration experience.

  1. Exert an amount of force continuously and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force rarely by utilizing a hand truck to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  1. Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  1. Individual is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.
  2. Atmospheric conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective      equipment is available.
  3. Individual may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited      to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
