Perform routine and some complicated testing using a wide variety of techniques and equipment. Operate equipment as well as perform basic troubleshooting and analysis for the equipment. Perform sample preps/extractions.

essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete chemical, physical or instrumental assay accurately on any pharmaceutical product, in-process material or raw material.
  • Operate the required laboratory instrumentation with little to no assistance.
  • Follow good laboratory practices and good lab rules, such as housekeeping, maintaining thorough, timely laboratory records, including data recording and calculating, and properly labeling solutions or materials.
  • Report results in an accurate, complete and legible manner in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare reagent mixtures, standard solutions, volumetric solutions, test solutions and indicators used in the analysis of samples.
  • Assist others regarding the operation of equipment and the performance of certain methods or analytical techniques as needed.
  • Perform assigned laboratory functions and additional duties as requested.
  • Learn new skills/techniques in order to progress to the next level.
  • Participate in OOS investigations as directed.
  • Audit data as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of a variety analytical techniques, and proficiency in some, including the following: USP dissolution equipment, Gas chromatography (GC), high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), atomic absorption (AA), infrared spectrophotometer (IR), ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometer (UV/VIS), pH meter, flurometer, melting point apparatus, viscometers, muffle furnace, polarimeter, vacuum oven, distillations, titrations, centrifuge, sonicator, conductivity meter.
  • Familiar with compendial guidelines such as USP and EP.
  • Familiar with following written procedures such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and methods
  • Familiar with data acquisition systems such as TotalChrom.
  • Familiar with a LIMS system.
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines such as cGMP.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction/supervision.  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a science related field and three years' pertinent, progressive experience in pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry; or
  • Associate's degree with five years' pertinent, progressive experience in pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry; or
  • Equivalent in pertinent, progressive related pharmaceutical industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

  2. Have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, bring object into sharp focus and see up and down or to the right or left while fixed on a point. Must also have the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  3. Exert an amount of force continuously and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  1. Individual is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to chemicals.
  2. Individual may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
