Function as primary lead for environmental, health and safety programs at all company facilities.

Supervise department specific operations to ensure quality and safety standards are met and the Environmental, Health and Safety programs are efficient and compliant for all company facilities. Provide direct supervision and coaching to front line employees and promote an open and collaborative work environment. Provide daily expectations to employees and ensure all necessary resources are available for employees to perform at highest safety and quality levels.

 

 

essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide comprehensive formal and informal leadership to promote a positive work environment and communicate overall business expectations to the plant working groups.
  • Prepare and communicate operational objectives to achieve department strategy, specifically around quality, safety and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and update EHS programs as necessary to ensure they are adequate to achieve compliance goals. In cases where programs are found to be deficient, inadequate, or non-existent, lead the initiative to implement necessary steps that will lead to compliance
  • Provide immediate supervision and assign tasks to EHS personnel
  • Administer the Respiratory Protection Program, including respiratory protection selection and use guidelines based on industrial hygiene monitoring results and available respiratory protective equipment, medical clearance, respiratory fit testing and annual training.
  • Lead industrial hygiene program for production employees. Analyze results and provide recommendations to manufacturing for process improvements.
  • Develop and lead the Emergency Response and Bloodborne Pathogen programs to include training and policy development/review.
  • Conduct evaluation, selection and recommendations for personal protective equipment.
  • Administer and lead the contractor safety training program to include the development and delivery of contractor training.
  • Investigate work-related incidents and coordinate employee care with Human Resources and Primary Care Provider.
  • Deliver New Employee EHS training.
  • Develop content and provide subject specific training to meet regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, training for Hazard Communication, Authorized Employee Lockout/Tagout; Confined Space Competent Person; Respiratory; Bloodborne Pathogen; First Aid; CPR and AED; Aerial Work Platform; Powered Industrial Truck; Qualified Electrical, and Arc Flash.
  • Lead internal EHS audits of facilities to verify compliance with all EHS regulations and company policy.
  • Review and update SOPs, policies and batch records to ensure they meet current standards and practices.
  • Assist supervisors in completing accident investigations to identify root causes and prevent reoccurrences.
  • Complete annual reviews of OSHA compliance programs as required by standards.
  • Review new equipment purchases from all EHS aspects during project development state.
  • Verify compliance with EHS training requirements and assist with training criteria development for inclusion in the Learning Management System.
  • Evaluate proposed regulations to determine the potential impact to the Company and keep management informed as potential regulations are nearing promulgation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with an array of different departments and outside vendors.
  • PC proficiency using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with primary support functions..
  • Ability to conduct industrial hygiene sampling and reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with precision and accuracy.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety or related field; or equivalent combination of education and pertinent, progressive experience in pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry.
  • Five years' directly related experience in safety or related field; preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

  1. Normal office conditions.
  2. Occasionally in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, laboratory equipment and exposure to chemicals.
  3. Individual may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
