Summary

Plan, organize and oversee Operations activities for assigned facility. Responsible for quality, safety and efficiency metrics within operating departments, in accordance with defined facility objectives. Provide leadership oversight in executing the production plan and facility objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive formal and informal leadership to promote a positive work environment and communicate overall business expectations to the plant working groups.
  • Prepare and communicate operational objectives, specifically around quality, safety and operational efficiency.
  • Review operating staff performance regularly and develop individuals within operating functions to continually enhance individual and work team performance.
  • Establish consistent work instructions in conjunction with functional managers and supervisors.
  • Promote an open and collaborative work environment with all peers and subordinates.
  • Identify, evaluate and lead the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities. "Hold the gains" by instituting metrics to monitor implementation results.
  • Develop and provide monthly reports on operating metrics and improvement initiatives.
  • Manage responsibility for results through supervisors in terms of environmental, safety, quality, productivity and costs. Provide for development and training of supervisors in order to achieve results.
  • Provide support to Vice President, Operations for budgeting and forecasting processes. Ensure budgets and forecasts are met.
  • Work on problems of a diverse scope in which analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Serve as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
  • Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establish goals to meet objectives. Provide guidance to subordinates to ensure facility goals are achieved in accordance with established policies.
  • Establish and recommend changes to policies which affect subordinate and peer organizations.
  • Adhere to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proven management and leadership skills, including strong interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to coach and mentor personnel to consistently high standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in identifying and resolving complex and cross functional issues.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate into tactical plans for execution and maintain established timelines and budgets.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with primary support functions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of cGMP regulations and requirements with ability to translate to operational details and communicate to work staff.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or business discipline; or the equivalent in pertinent and progressive experience with increasing levels of responsibility in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Five years' supervisory experience in pharmaceutical or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Eight years' manufacturing experience in pharmaceutical industry with increasing levels of responsibility.

  1. Exert an amount of force continuously and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force rarely by utilizing a hand truck to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  1. Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  1. Individual is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.
  2. Atmospheric conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective equipment is available.
  3. Individual may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
