Process Engineer

Primary Responsibility:

Develop and execute operational improvement projects within Operations.  Maintain daily interaction with operating groups to drive improvement implementation and tracks ongoing success against completed tasks.  Actively lead teams and provide individual contributions to problem solving efforts on selected projects to improve quality and processing cycle times, and reduce cost.  Collaborate with Operations, Quality and R&D to implement and integrate identified improvements to meet timelines and targeted results.  Develop and institutionalize appropriate metrics including dashboards, scorecards and productivity reporting. Evaluate and improve key business and quality practices to improve key performance indicators.  Interact with the Quality function to drive root cause evaluation and corrective action for product and/or process investigations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and execute operational improvement projects using a variety of Six Sigma, Lean and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Demonstrate and document tangible process improvements through cost, quality or time metrics.
  • Quickly evaluate and determine improvement opportunities. Lead implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and lead multiple process improvement teams throughout Operational areas.
  • Act as change agent to instill an improvement mindset.
  • Monitor performance and improvements in key metrics and take corrective action when needed.
  • Communicate results to Leadership and Plant Management.
  • Participate in scorecard reviews and execution of customer focused improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements.
  • Develop and execute small capital projects as required.
  • Develop user requirements for facilities and/or equipment as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated and applied knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies strongly desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function autonomously and achieve stated goals.
  • Proven leadership skills in team formation, problem resolution and project execution follow up.
  • Understanding of financial and other business measures to apply them effectively in the overall improvement process.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • PC proficiency using Microsoft Office required; Minitab and Visio desired.
  • Outstanding project management and team leadership skills.
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm with ability to energize others.
  • Self-directed work history with ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to effectively train, coach and mentor team members and impact groups.
  • Ability to influence and gain commitment at all organizational levels.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or related technical discipline.
  • Pertinent and progressive manufacturing work experience desired.

  • Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Individual is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.
  • Atmospheric conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective equipment is available.
  • Individual may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
