Production Supervisor

Summary

Supervise department specific operations to ensure quality and safety standards are met and the operations are efficient and organized.  Maintain facilities in highest level of compliance and cleanliness and ensure operating procedures are executed in accordance with all regulations.  Provide direct supervision and coaching to front line employees and promote an open and collaborative work environment.  Provide daily expectations to employees and ensure all necessary resources are available for employees to perform at highest safety and quality levels. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive formal and informal leadership to promote a positive work environment and communicate overall business expectations to the plant working groups.
  • Prepare and communicate operational objectives to achieve department strategy, specifically around quality, safety and operational efficiency.
  • Review operating staff performance regularly and develop individuals within operating function to continually enhance performance at individual and team levels.
  • Establish consistent work instructions in conjunction with other supervisors and managers.
  • Provide immediate supervision and assign tasks to production operators/technicians.
  • Promote an open and collaborative work environment with all peers and subordinates. 
  • Prepare periodic reports on operating metrics and improvement initiatives.
  • Work on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.  Exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.  Serve as an advisor to assigned staff and become actively involved as required to meet schedules and resolve problems.
  • Receive assignments in the form of objectives with goals and processes to meet goals outlined.  Assign tasks and provide guidance to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
  • Administer company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.  Recommends changes to policies which affect the Operations function.
  • Adhere to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements.
  • Ensure personnel are properly trained.
  • Help identify and support implementation of Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Thorough understanding of cGMP regulations and requirements and ability to translate to operational details and communicate to work staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills, including interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to coach and mentor personnel to consistently high standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Ability to execute tactical plans and maintain established timelines and budgets.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with primary support functions.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree in technical or business discipline; or the equivalent in pertinent and progressive experience with increasing levels of responsibility in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Three years' manufacturing experience in a lead role.
  • Five years' manufacturing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  1. Have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, bring object into sharp focus and see up and down or to the right or left while fixed on a point. Must also have the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  1. Exert an amount of force continuously and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently  and/or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force rarely by utilizing a hand truck to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  1. Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  1. Individual in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.
  2. Atmospheric conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective equipment is available.
  3. Individual  may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
