Equipment Technician

Summary

Performs maintenance assignments involving the routine maintenance, repair, installation and overhaul of manufacturing/process equipment. Duties aligned to Operating business unit to maintain equipment and support systems in validated and compliant state.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of manufacturing, packaging and support equipment.
  • Helps operate and clean equipment as directed in order to meet company quality and production targets.
  • Promptly reports any manufacturing or equipment abnormalities to Supervisor to expedite the resolution of such problems.
  • Completes all work in a professional manner consistent with all code and trade standards, as well as industry accepted safety and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions of supervisor or department manager.
  • Maintains equipment cleanliness during all process operations so as not to jeopardize product quality and/or purity.
  • Maintains acceptable housekeeping standards.
  • Completes and documents all corrective and routine preventive maintenance and scheduled performance evaluations for assigned equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance including, lubrication, filter changes, safety equipment checks as per company guidelines.
  • Receives minimal instruction on routine work, general instructions on new assignments.
  • Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations.
  • Effectively communicates problems and solutions with direct supervisor, peers and other department managers.
  • Applies job skills and company's policies and procedures to complete a wide range of difficult tasks.
  • Adheres to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements.
  • Identifies and helps implement Continuous Improvement opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives. 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of electrical maintenance of low voltage machine control wiring through 480 volt, 3-phase feeder installation. Basic understanding of National Electrical Code, conduit installation, schematic interpretation and electrical troubleshooting using multi-meters, ammeters, photo-tachometers and other electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to tear down and repair basic machine components (i.e., gears, bearings, shafts, chains, sprockets, pulleys, cams, etc.). Able to use precision measuring equipment (i.e., dial calipers, micrometers, etc.), and to convert from U.S. standard to metric, or metric to U.S. standard units of measure.
  • Demonstrates ability to read and comprehend equipment manuals and blueprints.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and to solve problems independently.
  • Must have current valid Driver's License to move between buildings.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and instruction documents written in English. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or General Education diploma (GED).
  • Three years' related maintenance experience in pharmaceutical or related manufacturing environment.

  1. Have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships, bring object into sharp focus and see up and down or to the right or left while fixed on a point. Must also have the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  1. Exert an amount of force continuously and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force rarely by utilizing a hand truck to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  1. Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  1. Individual is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to chemicals.
  2. Atmospheric conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective equipment is available.
  3. Individual  may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators, or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied air respirators.
