Vice President, Operations

Summary - Position located in St. Louis, Missouri

Plan, organize, direct and manage the primary operational functions including Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain (Materials Management, Purchasing, Planning and Scheduling) for the Company with orientation to improving operational quality compliance, execution consistency and business unit profitability.  Develop and execute policies, objectives, goals and financial plans approved by the President.  Must create a culture consistent with the corporate values, with an intense emphasis on compliance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Member of the Quality Council.
  • Coordinate, integrate, and prioritize all Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain plans and programs for existing and potential product lines and services.  Recommend direction for each departmental operation which allows achievement of quality compliance and operational objectives.
  • Lead the development of long and short term operational goals and objectives consistent with the Corporate Plan and Budget by providing the necessary general business parameters to reporting personnel.  Drive the creation of priorities for quality and operational performance and align other departments behind those objectives, while equally supporting their objectives and corporate goals and strategies.
  • Delegate duties or functions appropriately to staff and managers and establish procedures and controls to assure task accomplishment.  Coordinate objectives of functions and departments within Operations to ensure effective, efficient flow of work.
  • Create, develop and administer the coordination of approved plans for efficiency, growth, and personal development.  Report progress against established budgets and schedules for programs and projects.  Evaluate feasibility and develop plans for the continued improvement and effectiveness of the Company's operational departments.  Assume ultimate responsibility for quality and operational compliance within Operations and the cost structure of manufacturing to meet business needs.
  • Serve as operational advisor of executive boards for the purpose of planning, reviewing, and assisting in the implementation of operational objectives.  Oversee timely and thorough compilation of information from reporting personnel regarding analysis of manufacturing operations, processes, equipment, facilities, land, regulatory compliance systems including SOPs, materials management, production planning, inventory control, and others as required by corporate acquisition activity.
  • Develop and administrate management information/control systems for the sound operation of all areas of responsibility and conduct individual weekly discussion and monthly staff meetings to plan and review progress in all areas of business activity.  Maintain close and cooperative working relationships with all Company personnel.  Communicate relevant information to appropriate personnel relating to company-wide matters.
  • On occasion, represent the Company to the pharmaceutical industry, governmental agencies, financial institutions and business community for the purpose of developing and promoting the Company's interests.  Maintain membership in appropriate organizations, attending meetings, seminars and presentations.
  • Direct and participate, as required, in the selection of qualified personnel and provide for the effective and thorough development and training of reporting personnel.  Establish standards of performance and evaluate performance against those standards for reporting personnel including compensation reviews utilizing budgetary and performance criteria.
  • Assist others in the organization to provide experience and expertise where consultation is requested or required.
  • Adhere to all cGMPs, compliance/regulatory mandates and quality requirements while being viewed as an unsurpassed advocate for compliance at all times.
  • Demonstrate at all times, behaviors consistent with corporate values.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.

  • Demonstrated strengths in quality and operational oversight.
  • Progressive experience and/or responsibilities in the Pharmaceutical Operations area.
  • Demonstrated success achieving requirements in union and non-union work environments.
  • Demonstrated success in teambuilding and development of supervisory personnel.
  • Excellent planning, organization and delegation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills at all levels.
  • Superior management skills, ability to direct and monitor as well as be hands-on as required to address problems/opportunities.

  • Extremely collaborative and team oriented in all interfaces across the Company.
  • Ability to develop successful relationships with Quality Control/Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Human Resources, and Sales/Marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, with additional training in business operations and general management.
  • Fifteen years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience desired. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, with additional training in business operations and general management.
  • Fifteen years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience desired.

  1. Sufficient noise to occasionally cause the individual to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  1. Individual      is in a proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and      exposure to chemicals.
  2. Atmospheric      conditions sometimes expose individual to dust, for which protective      equipment is available.
  3. Individual      may be required to wear respiratory devices that include but are not limited      to: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) which include half-face and full-face      negative pressure respirators, hooded powered air purifying respirators,      or Supplied Air Respirators (SAR), which include hooded or full face supplied      air respirators.
